Everyone can't do all of their works - even if done proficiency cannot be achieved. In olden days there were no professional training institutions for some one to learn a work.
A person who learned some work and made it as his livelihood used to teach the same work to their children. So that way some families used to totally dependent on one particular work.
Some families depend on making clothes, some on washing clothes, hair cutting, making pots, conducting trade, perform rituals in temples .....
Some families used to govern the well being of the village.
So all this is to share the works among different people in the society.
People in society are interdependent.
Proficiency in work is what is desired and is what actually helps the society or him/her.
When you fall sick and had to see a doctor in a critical situation - how proficient or professional do you expect the doctor to be ?
That is what the level of proficiency or professionalism to be acquired by each person in their own work.
That is why it is called 'Work is Worship', and 'The dignity of labor' is emphasized.
When Infosys Narayana Murthy said that 'an office boy should also be treated properly like a software engineer' i was not convinced, after contemplating for some days only it striked me.
In modern days anyone can get trained on any work and choose their livelihood or give service to the society.
Actually talking about your past caste is prohibited in offices and in public - because there's a kind of abuse in it, and disturbs the intended work of the organization. Even talking about politics and religions is also prohibited - its a taboo.
A person's life will be miserable if he doesn't believe in 'Work is Worship', 'The Dignity of Labor', 'Knowledge is Divine' or lack 'Service Orientation'.
Professionalism and service orientation is clearly shown in the movie Titanic. The orchestra people, the captain wish to leave their bodies performing their job, in giving service to the people. The hero leaves his body while caring (service) for her lover.
Even Michael Jackson left his body in attempting to give still more service to the world - he fought till the end - with his own life.
A person's life depends entirely on 'What you give to the society' which determines 'what you get' - be it an employee, businessman, politician. For one to give he/she needs to be proficient in some work.
If you are using latest electronic gadgets, softwares, cars - it is all work, dedicated work, done as worship.
To learn work and to get proficiency patience is required.
The ( Caring ) Work of a Mother or House-wife is not at all regarded as Work in many families !!!!!!!!!!!!! - causing unrest and miseries - wish people be more civilized.
